Coyle opened the scoring in the first period
and added a short-handed empty-net tally. Trent Frederic also
scored in the first, Charlie McAvoy tallied in the second and
David Pastrnak added two assists as Boston outshot the Rangers
by a wide 36-21 margin.
Playing in front of 1,800 fans for the second time this season,
the Rangers were unable to follow up Friday's win as Colin
Blackwell scored their lone goal with 9:13 remaining in the
third.
New York also survived a potential injury scare to goaltender
Alexandar Georgiev, who was pulled for the final 13:19 of the
first period. Shortly after Boston's Nick Ritchie fell on
Georgiev's head during a scramble in the crease, the Rangers
sent him back to the locker room for an examination.
Georgiev returned for the final 40 minutes and made 31 saves.
Igor Shesterkin played the rest of the first period and stopped
one shot.
The Bruins went ahead with 13:19 remaining when Coyle went by
New York defenseman K'Andre Miller and lifted a shot from the
right side over Georgiev. Boston took a 2-0 lead late in the
period when Frederic deflected Connor Clifton's shot from the
right point past Shesterkin.
Boston took a 3-0 midway through the second by simply moving the
puck around numerous times following a faceoff win. Eventually
Brad Marchand whipped a cross-ice pass to Pastrnak at the left
point and his slap shot through traffic was tipped over Georgiev
by McAvoy.
The Rangers got on the board when Blackwell slipped a wrist shot
from the middle of the slot over Rask's right shoulder. The
Rangers were unable to score on a power play after Georgiev was
pulled for the extra attacker with about three minutes left and
Coyle fired into the empty net with 1:55 to go.
