Obituary
Weldon W. Eeten, 97, of Emden passed
away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at his home in
Emden.
Weldon was born on April 28, 1923 in Hartsburg, son
of Jacob and Catherine (Garber) Eeten. He married
Dorothy Schahl on September 8, 1951. She survives
him.
Also surviving Weldon are his daughters: Brenda
(Billie) Powers of Pekin and Deanna Eeten of Emden;
one grandson: Joshua (Amber) Powers of Washington;
one step great grandson: Jacob Mathis of Washington;
two brothers: James (Juanita) Eeten of Clinton and
Thomas (Brenda) Eeten of East Peoria. He was
preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Weldon was employed for 11 years at Fink Chev
Company of Emden and also worked part time as sub
rural mail carrier for the Emden Post Office. He was
appointed Rural Mail Carrier at Emden on September
8, 1955 and also served part of the Hartsburg route
for about 6 years, retiring January 31, 1983.
He was a member of St. Peter”s
Lutheran Church of Emden and its Brotherhood,
National Rural Letter Carriers Association, American
Legion Post # 506 of Emden, and a life member of
Disabled American Veterans. |
He was a World War II Veteran,
serving in Europe with 80th Infantry Division in
General Patton’s third army.
He received four Bronze Stars for the campaigns of
Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, and
also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star,
Purple Heart, European African, Middle Eastern
Theatre Ribbon, good conduct and WW II Victory
Medal.
Graveside services for Weldon will be 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Hartsburg Union Cemetery
with Rev. John Schurter officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in
Weldon’s name to the Emden Fire and Rescue.
Services are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
