Obituary

Margie Roloff of Lincoln died March 3, 2021 at the age of 92 of natural causes, unrelated to the corona virus pandemic.

A resident of St. Clara’s Manor since August 2009, she was born Margie Ellen Simmons on February 18, 1929, in Morehouse, MO, to Charles and Annabelle (Stewart) Simmons. She grew up in Peoria and attended Manual Training High School.

In 1946 she married Raymond Roloff and settled in Bartonville, later moving with him and their daughter Lynn and son Roger to Rushville, where she was active in the local P.T.A., Cub Scouts, and Brownie Scouts.

In 1974 she and her husband became owner-operators of the Schuy-Ville theater in Rushville and enjoyed a successful decade showing movies before moving to Lincoln in 1984. There Margie continued a contented life as housewife and doting grandmother.

She and her dear friend Mary Fletcher were featured in a Lincoln Courier article (Nov. 24, 2004) for their regular Wednesday lunches at many local restaurants and became affectionately known as the M-and-M’s.

In 2003 Margie became a proud great-grandmother of Katie Gallagher, whose visits to Margie’s Chestnut Street home and later to St. Clara’s were relished by all.

Margie’s passing leaves a deeply felt loss in the lives of her survivors, who include her daughter Lynn Fearneyhough and husband Robert of Lincoln; her son Roger and wife Barbara Petersen of New Paltz, NY; granddaughter Juli Gallagher, husband James, and great-granddaughter Katie of Beverly Hills, CA; grandson John Mortz and wife Jenn of New Orleans, LA; and sons of her deceased brother Charles.

Her brothers Eugene and Almas preceded her in death, as did her beloved husband, Raymond (in 2000) a true pillar of the family.

May Margie rest in peace with him at the New Union Cemetery.

Memorial donations in her name may be sent to the Lincoln Public Library District, 725 Pekin St., Lincoln, IL, 62656.

Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home is honored to assist Margie’s family with the arrangements.
