The Lady Railers traveled to Charleston on Wednesday night to
play the undefeated Trojans and the game was really a lot closer
than the final score of 67-60 indicated.
Charleston held a 15-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter
but a strong second quarter by Lincoln put the Lady Railers up 29-25
at the half.
The Trojans outscored Lincoln 23-12 in the third quarter and that
was the turning point of the game. Charleston was not about to let
their perfect record go on their own court. The Trojan lead was
48-41 at the end of three.
Midway through the fourth quarter Lincoln trailed just 51-47, but a
quick 6-0 run by Charleston would diminish the Lady Railers' plans
for a victory. Charleston held a 57-47 lead with 2:25 left to play
in the game.
In the final minutes of the game the Trojans would be a perfect
10-for-10 from the free throw line and seal the 67-60 win over
Lincoln.
Lincoln head coach Taylor Rohrer was proud of the girls' effort
against Charleston. Following the tough loss Rohrer said, “The girls
played really hard against a very good Charleston team. Each player
did their job and contributed in tonight’s game. I’m proud of how
much improvement I’ve seen in our team in such a short time,
especially because they were learning on the fly from game to game.”
Lincoln falls to 8-9 on the season.
Kloe Froebe led Lincoln with 28 points.
Shae Littleford led Charleston with 29 points.
The Trojans improve to 14-0.
The JV girls played two quarters against each other, with Lincoln
coming out on top 25-9.
Lincoln will host Taylorville tonight at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium.
The JV will start at 6 p.m. The Varsity will start at 7:30 p.m.
