Richardson, MSN, RN, is a recipient of the 2021 fellowship, which is
funded by the state. Recipients of the Nurse Education Fellowship
are awarded $10,000 to help promote excellence in nursing education.
“Kara is an exceptionally talented nurse educator. She is
innovative, creative, and well-loved by students who appreciate her
warmth and support,” said Jennifer O’Connor, Dean of Health Sciences
and Director of Nursing. “Some of the most exciting work Kara is
doing helping develop our simulation program. Prior to the COVID-19
outbreak she developed a fantastic OB hemorrhage simulation which
provides much-needed training experience for a very pressing problem
nurses face with obstetrics complications.”
Richardson has been with Heartland Community College since 2018. As
an Assistant Professor of Nursing, she currently teaches theory and
lab components of the Fundamentals of Nursing and Nursing Care:
Cronic Adult, and Family Health. She also teaches labs for Mental
Health, and several levels of Nurse Care Concepts.
Richardson also is a practicing Emergency nurse with over 10 years’
experience. She is currently working in the ER at Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital in Lincoln as her Heartland schedule allows.
