Obituary
Dorene Mae Craig Smith, 93, of Mount
Pulaski passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at
Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Dorene was born on October 4, 1927 in
Minier, the daughter of Edmond Lee and Hilda
Kathleen (Brittain) Craig. She married Jesse Lee
Smith on November 9, 1952 in Bloomington. He
preceded her in death on May 19, 1991.
Dorene is survived by her daughters, Lee Ann Baum of
Fort Mill, SC, Jodie (Danny) Ayers of Mount Pulaski,
Dawn Hahn of Lindenhurst and Peggy (Kevin) Bateman
of Lincoln; her grandchildren, Abagail, Sarah,
Erica, Austin, Zachary, Ethan, Brooke, Evan, Riley,
and Carly; her great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Landon,
Lukas, Wyatt, Jesse, Averie, Henry, Harlyn, Eugene,
Elliette, and Landon. |
Dorene was preceded in death by her
husband; three sisters, Orvetta Tucker, Juanita Keim,
and Alverne VanOrman; and one great-grandchild,
Emmaleigh Call.
Dorene worked for Dr. Stanley K. Nord
and the McLean County Circuit Clerk’s office. Dorene
retired from Vonderlieth Living Center after 22
years of service. She also enjoyed volunteering at
the Mount Pulaski Courthouse.
Services for Dorene will be held at 11:30 a.m. on
Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. Visitation will be
held two hours prior to the service from
(9:00-11:00am) also at the funeral home (Where face
masks and social distancing will be enacted). Burial
will follow the services at Steenbergen Cemetery in
Mount Pulaski.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
memorial donations be made in Dorene’s name to
Steenbergen Cemetery for their Memorial Day Veteran
Flags.
