Obituary
Fonda (Spaits) Wallen, 87, returned
to be with our Lord on May 2nd, 2021.
Fonda was the third child of Ruben and Mae Spaits
born on July 15th, 1933 in Atlanta, Il.
Fonda married John Gilbert of Atlanta, and had three
children, Jeff Gilbert (Martha) of Overland Park,
KS., Janet Gough (Larry) of New Buffalo, MI., and
Susan Stumpf (John) of Chicago, IL.
Fonda Grew up on the family farm outside of Atlanta,
IL. and helped her mother in the production of
butter, cream, eggs and other farm products. She
would then go with her mother on Saturdays to
deliver their farm to table products to regular
customers in the area.
Fonda had a tremendous work effort and drive to
succeed and was passionate in the study of Bible.
She loved spending time on her special screened-in
porch her son-in-lawn Larry built for her in
Michigan when she went there in the summer.

Fonda raised her family in Decatur,
and worked as an ICU nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital
and then as a real estate agent for Brinkoetter
Realtors. Fonda then served as a House Mother for
several sororities at Southern Methodist University,
San Diego State University, University of Missouri
and Missouri State University.
Fonda is survived by her brother, Marshal Spaits of
Athens AL., her three children, seven grandchildren:
Lindsay VanGelderen, Neville Gough, Rachel Klein,
Kaitlin Thornton, Emily Rogler, John Stumpf and
Danielle Stumpf. Grandma Fonda also is survived by14
great grandchildren.
Fonda will be enturned at the Atlanta cemetery in a
private ceremony under the direction of Quiram
Peasley Funeral Home.
