Nine Lincoln Community High School athletes sign letters of intent

Lincoln Community High School Activities Director Neil Alexander invited the public to attend a College Sports Signing Day, which took place on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 3 p.m. in the LCHS Auditorium.

Nine Lincoln Community High School students gathered with applause from family, friends, teachers, and coaches as the athletes celebrated the signing of intent to play sports for their respective colleges.



Students participating in the ceremony, under the direction of Emcee Cameron Kurtz, were Karissa Bowman - Lincoln Christian University for Volleyball, Elise Dawson - Lakeland College in Wisconsin for Volleyball, Jalen Franz - Lincoln College for Track & Cross Country, Landon Hullinger - Millikin University for Basketball, Alyvia Gannon - Eureka College for Volleyball, Kate Miller - Lewis & Clark Community College for Volleyball, Austin O'Donoghue – Marian University in Indiana for Wrestling, Sesleigh Peacock - Culver Stockton College in Missouri for Soccer, and Dylan Singleton - Missouri S & T for Basketball.

These students reached the goals they set for themselves when they entered LCHS four years ago, both academically and athletically. Congratulations to each one on their success and best of luck as you begin the next chapter as college athletes.



Name: Karissa Bowman

Why do you feel this college is the right choice for you?

I like how close it is to home plus the smaller size of the school will allow me to develop more friendships.

High School Awards: Athletic Academic Honor Roll

Other activities: Student Government, Library Club and a member of the National Society



Name: Elise Dawson


Parents: Mark and Rhonda Dawson

Sport: Volleyball

Years you played this sport at LCHS: four years

College: Lakeland University in Plymouth Wisconsin

Anticipated Major: Marketing

Why do you feel this college is the right choice for you?

The college has very nice facilities, located in small town but only 10 minutes away from a large city.

High School Awards: Apollo All-Conference Team

Other activities: Ran Track & was in the Library Club




Name: Jalen Franz


Parents: Thomas and Dawn Franz

Sport: Track & Cross Country

Years you played this sport at LCHS: four years

College: Lincoln College in Lincoln

Anticipated Major: Sports Management

 


Why do you feel this college is the right choice for you?

It has everything I want to move ahead for my future and it is close to home.

High School Awards: Leadership Award in Cross Country, Freshman-Sophomore Champion in the 4x100 and the 4x200 in track

Other activities: Band as a Drummer, Soccer for four years, Cross Country and Track




Name: Landon Hullinger

Sport: Basketball

College: Millikin University in Decatur

Anticipated Major: Pre-Medicine

Why do you feel this college is the right choice for you?

I like the friendly atmosphere and the opportunities offered to their students.

This College has everything they could offer me. I feel like I will fit into this community.

College: Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey

Anticipated Major: Hospital Administration

Why do you feel this college is the right choice for you?

After visiting, I fell in love with the campus and felt welcomed by all who has helped pursuing my dream.

Name: Austin O'Donoghue


Parents: Bo and Rhonda O'Donoghue

Sport: Wrestling

College: Marian University in Indianapolis Indiana

Anticipated Major: History with a Minor in Political Science

Why do you feel this college is the right choice for you?

I feel the school was the perfect size for me and I like the coaches and the facilities.

High School Awards: State Qualifier in Wrestling twice, All-Apollo Conference three times, Regional Champion, Record Holder for wins in a season and Pins in a career

Other activities: Baseball Manager, Library Cub President



Name: Sesleigh Peacock


Parents: Stacy Freese and Caleb Peacock

Sport: Soccer

College: Culver-Stockton College in Canton Missouri

Anticipated Major: Health Science

Why do you feel this college is the right choice for you?

It is a small community where everyone knows everyone, and they have a really good health science program.

High School Awards: Academic All-Apollo

Name: Dylan Singleton


Parents: Richie and Leslie Singleton

Sport: Basketball

College: S & T University in Rolla Missouri

Anticipated Major: Business

Why do you feel this college is the right choice for you?

I met with the coaches and visited the school, and I just knew it was the right fit for me. They made me feel at home and it is an excellent educational institution.



High School Awards: State Apollo All-Conference 2nd Team, IBCA All-State honorable mention junior year, Apollo All-Conference 1st Team, IBCA All-State 1st Team, MVP senior year
