Lady Railers split doubleheader with Mount Zion

Lincoln traveled to Mount Zion on Saturday to take on the Braves on the softball field and after dropping the first game 11-1, the Lady Railers bounced back to win game two 9-1.

Game One

The Lady Railers scored in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Mya Kirgan that brought Abbie Glenn home to score a run. That ended the scoring for game one for Lincoln.

The Braves plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-1 lead. They padded their lead in the fifth inning with three more runs. And in the bottom of the sixth inning the Braves tallied four runs and put the 11-1 win away in six innings.

The Lady Railers offense managed five hits in the game. Cara Farnam, Mya Kirgan, Malena Kirgan, Emily Paulus and Abbie Glenn had hits for Lincoln.

Cara Farnam took the loss for Lincoln. She tossed five innings and allowed 12 hits and 11 runs. Eight of the runs were earned. Farnam struck out three batters and walked two.

Dakota Harrison earned the win for Mount Zion. She allowed one run on five hits over six innings. She struck out nine Lady Railers and walked one.

Game Two

The Lady Railers snapped a seven-game losing streak by defeating Mount Zion 9-1 in game two.

Emily Paulus started the game with a leadoff walk. Abbie Glenn doubled to advance Paulus to third base. A fielder’s choice by Cara Farnam scored the Lady Railers first run. A fielder’s choice by Ryen Stoltzenburg scored Glenn and the Lady Railers were up 2-0 early.

In the top of the second inning, Abbie Glenn and Farnam contributed RBI singles to extend the lead to 4-0 over the Braves.

Moving quickly to the fourth inning, the Lady Railers scored a run on an RBI single by Paulus. Ryen Stoltzenburg added a two-run single in the inning to set the score at 7-0.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Railers struck again, plating two more runs. Glenn started the inning with a single. Farnam doubled to left field to advance Glenn to third. Glenn scored on a groundout by Stoltzenburg. Mya Kirgan then reached on an error by the third baseman and Farnam came scrambling home with the Lady Railers ninth run of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Braves avoided the shutout when a run scored on an RBI single.

Glenn retired the Braves fairly easy in the seventh inning to earn the 9-1 win for Lincoln.

Glenn tossed the complete seven inning game, allowing just one run on three hits. She struck out five batters and allowed five walks.

The Lady Railers had eight hits as a team. Abbie Glenn led the offense with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. Glenn scored three runs and had one RBI. Cara Farnam was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Emily Paulus was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Ryen Stoltzenburg was 1-for-4 with four RBIs. Riley Tungate was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Kayla Schnippel took the loss for the Braves. She threw seven innings, allowing the nine runs on eight hits and striking out six batters.

Lincoln improved to 5-8 on the season.
