Lincoln hosted New Berlin Monday afternoon and with senior
Lucas Konczyk on the hill the Railsplitters coasted to an 11-0 win
over the Pretzels.
Konczyk tossed the complete five-inning game and allowed just one
hit, no walks and struck out five batters.
The Railsplitters were quick to score in the first inning. Leadoff
man Dylan Singleton reached on an error by the third baseman to
start the game. Singleton stole second base just ahead of Trent
Koehler’s bunt single back to the pitcher. With runners at the
corner, Keagan Ferguson drew a walk to load the bases. Tanner
Strampp reached on an error to the shortstop, and two runs scored on
the play. Konczyk helped his own cause when he slugged an RBI single
to left, scoring Ferguson. The Pretzels retired the next two
Railsplitters on fly balls but the 3-0 lead was a good start for
Lincoln.
The fourth inning was huge for the Railsplitters. Eight runs crossed
the plate. Seth Tungate started the inning with a single. Tungate
stole second and scored on the base hit by Singleton. After a walk
to Koehler, Ferguson tripled to centerfield. Singleton and Koehler
both scored on Ferguson’s hit and the Railsplitters lead was 6-0.
After Strampp was hit by a pitch, Sean Raffa stepped in the batter’s
box and smacked a line drive to center to score Ferguson. With
runners at the corners, Patrick McCraith walked to load the bases.
The Pretzels troubles continued on the mound and two runners scored
on passed balls to give Lincoln a 9-0 lead. Two more runs scored
when Trent Butterfield hit a ball to second base and the second
baseman committed an error. McCraith and Tungate scored on the play
and the Railsplitters were up 11-0 when the fourth inning ended.
