The Hilltoppers played at Argenta-Oreana on Wednesday
afternoon and defeated the Bombers 4-1.
The Hilltoppers wasted no time getting on the board in the
first inning with two runs. A.J. Bailey led off the game
with a single and Evan Cooper drew a walk. A passed ball
advanced Bailey and Cooper, as Drew Martin was in the
batter’s box. Martin reached base on an error by the
shortstop and Bailey scored on the play. A ground out by
Landon Smith scored the other Hilltoppers run.
The Bombers cut the lead in half in the second inning,
scoring a run on an error.
The Hilltoppers plated a run in the top of the fifth inning
on an RBI single by Martin to score Bailey.
In the top of the sixth inning, Lucas Kuhlman added an RBI
single and the Hilltoppers were on top 4-1.
With Evan Cooper on the mound, the Hilltoppers continued to
retire the Bombers and after seven innings, the Hilltoppers
claimed the 4-1 win.
Cooper was the winning pitcher. He worked the complete game,
allowing one run on six hits. He struck out eight batters
and walked one.
A.J. Bailey led the Mount Pulaski offense by going 3-for-4
at the plate with two runs scored. Drew Martin was 2-for-4
with two RBIs. Landon Smith, Gavin Smith and Lucas Kuhlman
each had hits for Mount Pulaski.
The Hilltoppers improve to 10-0 on the season.
Mount Pulaski will play at Peoria Heights today at 4:30 p.m.
