LDuring the next two months, the library will host
a range of free activities for children, teens, and adults to
encourage and support a love of reading. Participants can win prizes
or be entered into prize drawings for reaching their reading goals.
We’ve planned a wonderful program for kids to make the library a
great place to read, learn, and discover what’s available for their
enjoyment. Most activities will be outdoors as weather permits and
will follow CDC guidelines.
Themed events include story time every Thursday, starting June 10
at 10:00AM on the lawn of the Carnegie building (as weather
permits) with skits, music, and movement; a Pete the Cat meet and
greet; a Unicorn photo op; the return of Silly Safaris and much
more. Story times will also be recorded for viewing on the Library’s
Facebook page. There will be fun and educational STREAM, Explorer,
and Teen kits available for pick up starting June 7.

As a finale this year, the library will be hosting a Family Fun
Day on Saturday, August 28, from 10:00AM to 4:00PM, to coincide with the Annual
Library Book Sale and Balloons Over 66 events. There will be crafts, games, and
Sharp’s Shaved Ice Shack available.
There’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown
that reading over the summer prevents summer reading loss. Studies also indicate
students who read recreationally outperformed those who don’t. Students read
more when they can choose materials based on their interests.
Registration continues throughout the summer. To learn more about the summer
reading adventure at the library please call 217-732-5732, follow us on Facebook
and Instagram, or checkout the library’s website www.lincolnpubliclibrary.org
