Lincoln played at Springfield Lutheran Wednesday afternoon and
after falling behind 5-0, the Railsplitters bats woke up in the
fifth inning and went on a tear.
Lincoln plated six runs in the top of the fifth inning to take
the lead. Seth Tungate started the inning with a single to
third. With one out, Dylan Singleton doubled to center to score
Tungate. Trent Koehler walked. Singleton advanced to third and
then onto home on passed balls. A single to center by Tanner
Strampp scored Koehler. Sean Raffa reached on an error. Lucas
Konczyk hit a double to left to score the pinch runner, Patrick
McCraith. Raffa scored on a passed ball. Trey Schilling singled
to left to score Konczyk and just like that the Railsplitters
took over the lead. Tungate, who had started the inning, lined
out to the shortstop but Lincoln was on top 6-5.
Lincoln put four runs on the board in the sixth inning. Andrew
Graue started the inning with a single. Singleton doubled to
center. Koehler’s single to third scored Graue. Singleton would
score on an error by the first baseman. Koehler made his way
around to third on the same error. Ferguson walked, putting
runners at the corners. A double steal by Ferguson and Koehler
meant Koehler crossed the plate with another run. Ferguson also
stole third and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Raffa. Lincoln had
taken over the game with a 10-5 lead and the Railsplitters were
not done yet.
In the top of the seventh inning, Lincoln had their biggest
inning of the season, as 11 runs crossed the plate. The inning
started with four consecutive singles. A hit by pitch and a
double later and the Railsplitters were winning 14-5. The wheels
on the bus were falling off for the Crusaders. An error led to
two more runs. The inning was dotted with a couple more errors
and a hit by pitch by the Crusaders and the Railsplitters took
advantage. After RBI singles by Koehler and Sam Gleason, Lincoln
was up 21-5.
The Crusaders got a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh
inning but any threat was quickly erased with a double play. A
strikeout by the Railsplitters pitcher, Aiden Nemeth, ended the
game.
Lincoln pounded out 20 hits in the 21-5 win.

had three hits. Tanner Strampp and Lucas Konczyk had two hits
