Mount Pulaski defeats Peoria Heights 9-1

The Hilltoppers continue to play outstanding ball during the
2021 baseball campaign. Mount Pulaski defeated Peoria Heights on
Friday by a final score of 9-1, improving their season record to
11-0.
Gavin Smith earned the win for Mount Pulaski. He tossed three
innings, allowing four hits and one run. He struck out six batters.
A.J. Bailey pitched three innings of middle relief. Bailey allowed
three hits and struck out one batter.
Landon Smith pitched the seventh inning for Mount Pulaski. He struck
out two batters.
At the plate, Grant Davis had a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs for the
Hilltoppers. Garrett Fitzpatrick was 2-for-3 at the plate. A.J.
Bailey and Drew Martin each had a hit for Mount Pulaski.
The Hilltoppers plated one run in the first inning. A.J. Bailey and
Evan Cooper each reached on errors to start the game. Landon Smith
walked to reach base. Gavin Smith drove home Bailey on a sacrifice
fly.
Grant Davis contributed a two-run single in the third inning to
score Cooper and Martin. Landon Smith scored in the inning on a wild
pitch and the Hilltoppers were out to a 4-0 lead.
Peoria Heights scored their only run on a sacrifice fly in the
bottom of the third inning.

Martin added an RBI single in the top
half of the fourth inning for Mount Pulaski. Cooper scored on a
passed ball and Landon Smith scored on a sacrifice fly to center.
Mount Pulaski’s lead was now 7-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, Davis
added an RBI double to his day, giving Mount Pulaski an 8-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning, Bailey tripled to right field and
scored on a sacrifice fly by Cooper.
The Hilltoppers had no trouble retiring the side in the bottom of
the seventh inning, with Landon Smith recording two strikeouts.
Mount Pulaski takes the 9-1 win on the road.
The Hilltoppers will play at Delavan today, Monday, at 4:30 p.m.
