The Lincoln Community High School Board of
Education met on Monday evening and voted unanimously to rejoin
the Central State Eight Conference. The vote was 4-0, with two
members absent. There will be a seventh member interviewed and
appointed to the school board at the regularly scheduled meeting
on June 30 at 6 p.m.
LCHS School Board President Susan Gleason made a statement
following the meeting. “Our student's safety and education comes
first, therefore we felt this was the best decision for all
students participating in extracurricular activities. We are
also happy that the community has participated in this decision
by sharing their thoughts.”
Rod Clarke, who is a huge supporter of Railer athletics and who
runs the Facebook account “We are Railer Nation,” weighed in
following the vote. “I think it’s a great move for all
involved,” said Clarke.
"Clearly the biggest thing was the travel. Just as a fan, those
rides to Effingham, Charleston and Mattoon were not fun. We were
spending close to four hours on the road to watch a game that may
take an hour and a half at most. I can’t imagine the toll it took on
the kids and parents. It will be nice to go back to a conference
that Lincoln is familiar with and renew some old rivalries.”
At this point the earliest Lincoln could start participating in
Central State Eight Conference activities would be the 2022-23
school year.
