Normal Community pounded out 14 hits off
Lincoln pitching on Wednesday to defeat the Lady Railers 14-3.
Normal Community scored a run in the top of the first inning to
take a 1-0 lead.
Lincoln was able to tie the game in the bottom of the first
inning. Four consecutive walks allowed the Lady Railers to score
the tying run. Two strikeouts later and the Lady Railers were
retired, leaving the bases loaded.
A five-run second inning put Normal Community in the lead for
good.
Lincoln did score two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Taryn Stoltzenburg drew a walk ahead of a single by Emily Paulus.
Abbie Glenn reached on an error to load the bases. Ryen
Stoltzenburg hit a single to center to score two runs and make
the score 6-3. The Lady Railers were retired on a ground out to
end the inning.
Normal Community scored one run in the top of the fourth inning
and with the score 7-3, the game was still within reach for
Lincoln.
But in the top of the seventh inning, Normal Community plated
seven runs, highlighted by a three-run home run by Alison Kern.
Lincoln was retired easily in the bottom of the seventh inning
and suffered the 14-3 loss.
Cara Farnam took the loss for Lincoln. She threw four innings,
allowing seven runs on eight hits. She struck out four batters
and walked three.
Chloe Johnston pitched three innings in relief. She allowed
seven runs on six hits. She struck out three batters and walked
two.
Ryen Stoltzenburg was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Lincoln. Emily
Paulus, Cara Farnam and Cassie Bridge each had hits for Lincoln.
The Lady Railers fall to 6-11 on the season.
Lincoln will host Morrisonville today at 4:30 p.m.
