Jay Thomas, son of Ricky and Jamie Thomas of Mason City, recently
graduated from Illinois Central Colleges GM ASEP program with a degree
in Automotive Technology.
During the recent graduation ceremony Jay was also awarded “The
Determined Student Award” that recognizes the student that displays
the highest level of determination while in class.
The GM ASEP or Automotive Service Education Program is a cooperative
effort between local community colleges and General
Motors that allows a student to work in a real world service
department environment while in college.
Graue Chevrolet Buick Cadillac acted as the sponsor allowing Jay
Thomas to alternate 8 week periods between classes at ICC and
working in the service department at Graue Inc with a mentor
technician.
The students gain knowledge of current repair techniques, while
earning GM Certification that will allow them to start work right
out of college.
Jay plans to work full time at Graue Inc as a technician using
skills learned at ICC and the ASEP program.
