With Cara Farnam in the circle Thursday afternoon, the Lady Railers shutout Morrisonville 13-0. Farnam pitched five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight batters while earning the win.

Lincoln pounced on Morrisonville for six runs in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Emily Paulus reached base on an error. The no. 2 hitter, Abbie Glenn, doubled to left field and with runners on second and third, the Lady Railers were a threat to score. A passed ball advanced both runners, allowing Paulus to score the first run of the game. Farnam hit a single to center that scored Glenn and Lincoln was up 2-0. Ryen Stoltzenburg followed Farnam with a base hit to center. After a pop out by Mya Kirgan, Malena Kirgan grounded out, but Farnam scored the third run of the game. Chloe Johnston then hit a grounder to the shortstop and reached on an error. Ryen Stoltzenburg scored on the play. Cassie Bridge and Taryn Stoltzenburg hit back-to-back singles and the Lady Railers were able to score two more times in the inning, jumping out to a 6-0 lead before the third out was recorded.

The Lady Railers plated three more runs in the bottom of the second inning. A leadoff single by Glenn, followed by Farnam getting hit by a pitch, set the stage for more offense to follow. Mya Kirgan doubled to right field, scoring both Glenn and Farnam. Malena Kirgan was quick in the batter’s box to slug a ground ball to center, scoring Mya Kirgan. Lincoln’s lead was now 9-0.

Farnam struck out the side in the top of the third inning, and Lincoln was ready to strike again in the bottom of the third.

This time the Lady Railers scored four more times. Taryn Stoltzenburg and Emily Paulus each reached base on errors. Farnam doubled to score both of them. Morrisonville pitching got a little wild in the inning and three consecutive walks and an error later, Lincoln was up 13-0.

Farnam was lights out all afternoon and with the Lincoln defense handling the job in the field, Morrisonville was never a threat to score.

The five-inning game ended with Lincoln winning 13-0.

Cara Farnam was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Abbie Glenn was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Taryn Stoltzenburg was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Ryen Stoltzenburg, Malena Kirgan, Mya Kirgan and Cassie Bridge also had hits for the Lady Railers.

Not a single Lady Railer struck out in the game.

Lincoln improves to 7-11 on the season.

The Lady Railers play a doubleheader today at Mahomet-Seymour. The first game will begin at 10 a.m.
