Mount Pulaski topples Midwest Central 15-3

The Hilltoppers traveled to Manito Monday afternoon and
defeated Midwest Central 15-3 with Evan Cooper on the mound. Cooper
threw the complete five-inning game, allowing three runs on seven
hits. He struck out eight batters and walked one. He gave up one
home run to the Raiders.
The Hilltoppers scored one run in the top of the first inning on a
sacrifice fly by Drew Martin.
The Raiders took the lead in the bottom half of the first inning on
a two-run home run off Cooper.
Mount Pulaski’s offense did some serious damage in the third inning,
scoring seven runs on eight hits. An RBI single by Landon Smith tied
the game 2-2 and the Hilltoppers took off from there. Gavin Smith
slugged an RBI double to score Landon Smith with the go-ahead run.
Grant Davis added an RBI single to score Gavin Smith. Garrett
Fitzpatrick hit an RBI double to score Davis. Four consecutive
singles by Lucas Kuhlman, A. J. Bailey, Evan Cooper and Drew Martin
made the runs cross home plate easily. The Hilltoppers scored the
last run in the inning on a wild pitch and Mount Pulaski had stormed
out front 8-2.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Hilltoppers plated four runs.
Cooper hit two runs in on a single to right field. Bailey scored on
an error and Clay Aylesworth scored on a wild pitch. Mount Pulaski
was on top 12-2 at the end of the fourth inning.

Three more runs crossed home plate for Mount Pulaski in the top of
the fifth inning. An RBI double by Grant Davis scored Gavin Smith.
Davis scored on an error later in the inning. Luke Farris scored the
last Hilltoppers run on a wild pitch. The Hilltoppers led 15-2.
The Raiders added an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Mount Pulaski wins via the ten-run rule by a final score of 15-3.
The Hilltoppers had 14 hits in the game.
Grant Davis was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Evan
Cooper was 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Jackson Fricke was 2-for-4. A.J.
Bailey, Drew Martin, Landon Smith, Gavin Smith, Garrett Fitzpatrick
and Lucas Kuhlman each had a hit for Mount Pulaski.
The Raiders committed six errors.
Mount Pulaski improved to 15-0 overall on the season.
