Mount Pulaski defeats Central A & M 10-0

The Hilltoppers continue rolling over the competition this
season. On Wednesday afternoon Mount Pulaski hosted Central A & M
and beat the Raiders in five innings, 10-0 the final score.
The Hilltoppers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning,
all on two outs. Drew Martin cracked a triple to center for Mount
Pulaski’s first hit of the game. Jackson Fricke singled to bring
home the courtesy runner, Clay Aylesworth. After Landon Smith
reached base on a hit by pitch, the courtesy runner for Fricke, Luke
Farris, scored on a wild pitch. Following a walk to Gavin Smith that
loaded the bases with Hilltoppers, Garrett Fitzpatrick sent a single
to left that scored Landon Smith and Davis. Mount Pulaski ended the
inning by batting around. The Hilltoppers held a 4-0 advantage over
the Raiders at the end of one inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Martin did it again with a
one-out triple to center. Aylesworth came in to run for Martin and
he scored on a passed ball. Landon Smith contributed an RBI double
to left and Mount Pulaski was up 6-0. Davis singled to score Landon
Smith. Davis made his way around the bases by stealing second,
taking third on a wild pitch and scoring on a passed ball. Mount
Pulaski ended the second inning with an 8-0 lead.
The Hilltoppers scored a run in the bottom of the third inning on an
error.
With the shutout in place, one more run in the bottom of the fifth
inning was all the Hilltoppers needed. A.J. Bailey led off the
inning with a single to center and then stole second. Evan Cooper
drew a walk. Pulling a double steal, Bailey and Cooper moved to
second and third. With one out, Fricke sent a single to center to
score Cooper and the game was over early via the ten-run rule.

The 10-0 victory keeps the Hilltoppers
undefeated on the season with a 16-0 record.
Drew Martin earned the win for Mount Pulaski. He tossed four
innings, allowing just one hit. Martin struck out eight batters and
walked no one.
Luke Farris pitched an inning in relief and struck out one batter
and walked one.
The Hilltoppers had nine hits versus the Raiders.
Jackson Fricke was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Drew Martin was 2-for-3.
Garrett Fitzpatrick, Grant Davis, Landon Smith, A.J. Bailey and Evan
Cooper each had one hit for the Hilltoppers. Fitzpatrick batted in
two runs.
Mount Pulaski will host Springfield Lutheran on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
