“Healthy Life, Healthy You” is a free virtual diabetes webinar
scheduled for 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16. It will
feature a host of health care experts as well as a live
question-and-answer time.
Two Memorial Health speakers will be part of the event. They are
Lori Iocca, an advanced practice nurse and certified diabetes
educator with Memorial Diabetes Services at the Memorial Wellness
Center, and Sarah Tierney, a registered nurse and a certified
diabetes educator, who works at Lincoln Memorial Hospital and
Taylorville Memorial Hospital. They will be speaking on “Numbers You
Need to Know Living with Diabetes”.
Other speakers and their topics are Andrea Byrne, a registered nurse
and registered yoga teacher at Fit Club, “Cutting Stress for
Improved Diabetes Control”; and Charlyn Ware, Gayle Jennings and
Kelly Powell, registered dietitians and diabetes educators with SIU
School of Medicine, “Food Label 101 and Balancing Your Plate.”

More than 29 million people have diabetes with about 1.4 million new cases
diagnosed each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention. More than one in every 10 adults over the age of 20 has diabetes.
