The Lions will see how
well Goff can throw by Wednesday before determining his status
for this week's game against the Cleveland Browns (5-5).
The news comes amid three transactions involving more kickers.
David Blough would likely get the nod at quarterback if Goff is
unable to go. Blough mopped up in the Lions' blowout loss to
Philadelphia, taking four snaps and rushing for six yards. He
also appeared in one game in 2020. He started five games in
2019.
Goff is completing 66.1 percent of his passes for 2,107 yards,
with eight touchdowns and six interceptions in his first season
in Detroit. His ineffectiveness has contributed to the team's
0-8-1 record.
Goff went 14-for-25 passing for 112 yards against the Steelers.
Also Tuesday, the Lions signed kicker Riley Patterson off the
New England Patriots' practice squad. He's the sixth kicker for
Detroit this season.
Current kicker Ryan Santoso missed an extra point and a
potential game-winning 48-yard field goal in overtime against
the Steelers. Santoso, who was elevated to replace Austin
Seibert, was released from the practice squad Tuesday. Seibert
was put on injured reserve last week and must miss at least two
more games.
The Lions also signed K Aldrick Rosas to their practice squad.
Rosas made the Pro Bowl in 2018 with the New York Giants.
The team also waived wide receiver Geronimo Allison.
The Lions face a short week after the Browns' game; they play
Thanksgiving Day against the Chicago Bears.
