McDavid scored the tying goal in regulation and also tallied in the
shootout as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the visiting Winnipeg Jets
2-1 Thursday night.
The Oilers' Stuart Skinner made 46 saves for his second career NHL
victory and first this season. Kyle Turris produced the clincher in
the shootout as the Oilers avenged a 5-2 loss Tuesday in Winnipeg.
For the Jets, Nikolaj Ehlers scored and Connor Hellebuyck made 31
saves.
The game, the first between the teams at Rogers Place since the Jets
swept Edmonton in a first-round playoff series in the spring, was
scoreless for more than 2 1/2 periods until Ehlers tallied at 13:57
of the third.
The Jets' Kyle Connor skated down the left wing, and when he got to
the top of the faceoff circle, dropped a pass for Mark Scheifele.
The center continued just past the faceoff dot before he dropped a
pass back for Ehlers, whose one-timer from the top of the circle
beat a screened Skinner into the upper right corner of the net.
McDavid tied the score on an amazing end-to-end rush just 28 seconds
later. McDavid picked up the puck just inside his own blue line and
skated up the center of the ice before encountering three Winnipeg
players at the blue line. McDavid split two of the defenders and
outskated the other to the net before putting a forehand shot into
the upper left corner. Defensemen Cody Ceci and Duncan Keith were
credited with assists.

Skinner, a 23-year-old Edmonton native, had
relieved Mikko Koskinen late in the second period of Tuesday's loss
and stopped all eight shots he faced.
He made 17 saves in the first period Thursday, 12 in the second,
nine in the third and eight more in overtime, helping kill off a
penalty after McDavid was assessed a double minor for high-sticking
Scheifele with 43 seconds to go in regulation.
In the shootout, Skinner made a glove save on Connor and a blocker
save on Scheifele.
