Obituary
Matthew Alan Young, 66, passed away
peacefully on September 29 at OSF St. Joes in
Bloomington, IL surrounded by his family.
Matt was born on July 30, 1955, to Lowell and
Lucille (Ryan) Young. Matt was the youngest of seven
siblings.
He is survived by: Mickey Kuznick, Marlene Thompson,
Mike (Ruth) Young, Doodie (Bob) Meiners, and Mark (Coralee)
Young. Matt’s first and one true love was his wife
Theresa (Verderber). They were married on August 16,
1980, and this year celebrated 41 years of marriage.
Matt is the father of four children Michelle (Howie)
Fuiten, Derek Young, Erik (Danielle) Young, and Kyle
(Emily) Young. Matt adored his six grandchildren:
Carson, Carter, Cecilia, Ella, Leo and Crosby and
loved attending many of their events and activities.
Matt worked at the Department of Corrections and was
one of the original owners of the Alley-Bi Saloon in
Lincoln.
Sunday dinner was Matt’s favorite day to spend time
with his family. He also loved the Chicago Bears and
watching many games with the Bear Babies. |
Matt was an avid woodworker. He spent
many hours in his workshop making furniture, comfort
crosses and other gifts and toys for his family and
friends.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and
deer camp with his buddies. He was a member of the
Lincoln Knights of Columbus.
Matt is preceded in death by his
parents Lowell and Lucille Young, sister, Jeanne and
other close friends. He will be missed by all who
knew him for his witty banter and ornery sense of
humor.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on
Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic
Church in Lincoln, with the funeral following with
Rev. Joseph Dondanville officiating. A private
graveside service will be at a later date.
A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, October 3,
2021, from 12 noon-4:00 p.m. at the Knights of
Columbus in Lincoln.
Memorial donations can be made to Carroll Catholic
School Athletics and the Lincoln Knights of
Columbus.
Cremation rites are entrusted to Fricke
Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
