Both players had two match points during the third-set
tiebreaker with Murray converting his second to claim the
triumph. The Brit finished with 46 winners and 21 unforced
errors, while Tiafoe had 51 winners (including eight aces) and
25 unforced errors.
Jenson Brooksby upset fifth-seeded Reilly Opelka 6-4, 6-4 in a
battle of Americans, and Brandon Nakashima, also from the United
States, notched a 6-4, 6-0 win over sixth-seeded Alex de Minaur
of Australia. Seventh-seeded Lloyd Harris of South Africa
registered a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Zizou Bergs of Belgium.
Kremlin Cup
Illya Marchenko of Ukraine recorded six aces during a 6-4, 6-3
upset of fifth-seeded Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan in the
first round at Moscow.
Frenchman Gilles Simon also pulled off an upset, beating
eighth-seeded Serbian Laslo Djere 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-3. Simon
trailed in the final set before winning each of the last four
games.
Among other matches, American Tommy Paul advanced with a 7-6
(7), 7-5 victory over Sweden's Mikael Ymer. Paul converted 76.1
percent of his first-serve points while Ymer's success rate was
just 58.7.
