State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason) issued the following
statement after the Senate passed House Bill 370, which repeals
the Parental Notice of Abortion (PNA) Act of 1995 with a 32-22
vote:
“Parents’ have an inherent right to know about their child’s
health and healthcare decision in order to ensure that their
children’s mental and physical needs are properly treated.
“Against all logic, the Democrat majority chose to take that
right away from Illinois parents by voting to repeal the
Parental Notice of Abortion (PNA) Act.
“To be crystal clear, the PNA only requires parents to be
notified about their child’s decision to receive an abortion
procedure. It does not require parents to provide consent.
“Instead of treating this like virtually every other medical
procedure that a minor may undergo, the Democrats want to keep
the parents of our state in the dark about their daughter’s
healthcare decision.”
