Larkin scored at 1:37 of overtime and the visiting Detroit Red Wings
defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Wednesday.
Larkin ripped a shot from the left circle past the glove of
goaltender Vitek Vanecek off a feed from Lucas Raymond. Moritz
Seider also assisted on the game-winner.
Adam Erne and Robby Fabbri also scored for Detroit, while Thomas
Greiss made 26 saves.
Alex Ovechkin scored his eighth goal of the season for Washington.
Evgeny Kuznetsov had the other Capitals goal while Vanecek made 22
saves. All three of Washington's losses this season have come in
overtime.
Washington had a 13-7 advantage in shots on goal in the first period
but didn't score until the final minute.
Sam Gagner tripped T.J. Oshie and that penalty allowed Washington to
score a power-play goal with 55 seconds left in the period. Greiss
made a skate save against Ovechkin but the puck bounced back to the
perennial All-Star, who fired a shot from his knee over Greiss'
right leg. Lars Eller and Anthony Mantha, playing against his former
team for the first time, got the assists.
Detroit had a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal in the second period,
which ended with the Capitals still up 2-1.

Washington's next power-play goal came four minutes
into the second period. With Danny DeKeyser in the box for hooking,
Kuznetsov scored from the right circle. The Capitals won a faceoff
in Detroit's zone and Conor Sheary passed it to Kuznetsov, who beat
Greiss through the five-hole. Oshie was credited with the second
assist.
Erne put the Wings on the board at 9:17 of the second period. Filip
Hronek skated around Vanecek and fed Erne, who banged in his second
goal of the season. Vladislav Namestnikov got the second assist.
Fabbri scored in front at 2:03 of the third period to tie it up. The
Red Wings won a battle for the rebound on the play with Erne and
Pius Suter gaining the assists.
