The Shady Car show has been an annual tradition in
Lincoln for the past several years, and draws in a large number of
vehicles from all around the region.
The diversity of the 125 vehicles showing was astounding as visitors
to the show were able to see new, old, somewhere in between, cars,
trucks, jeeps, American made, foreign cars, rat rods and some that
the best description would be “under construction.”
Some vehicles were so tricked out, they boggled the mind.
Others were so close to factory roll offs, so well maintained in
their original state that for some of the oldsters in the park, they
conjured memories of “back in the day” when “we drove one just like
that.”
Some vehicles were “resto-mods” and some were “rusto-mods” made to
look worn and aged, bring to mind the thought “she’s so ugly she’s
pretty.”

They used to be called “car guys,” but the world of
collecting and showing cars has evolved and today we see as many
“car gals” at the shows as we do men. They love their cars
regardless of their gender and enjoy showing them off, and talking
about them.
Around the park groups of showers congregated, sharing notes and
telling stories about their cars and the places they have been with
them.
On Sunday, JD’s DJ Services kept the mood upbeat with music blasting
from their drivable sound system that was cute enough to be an entry
in the show.
From time to time the announcer would break in and remind everyone
that the Lincoln Railette Dance Team was selling 50/50 tickets. At
the end of the day the winner share was getting close to $1,000 with
an equal amount going to be going to the dance team.
Members of the dance team were out and about working the crowd and
it was clearly paying off for them.
Food was available all day from Mama’s Arcade. The local restaurant
had a tent set up selling sandwiches, chips, drinks and some tasty
sweets.
One of the best parts of the Shady Car Show at Memorial Park is the
shade. With so many trees, their shade allowed car owners and
visitors to enjoy the vehicles without spending hours in the
pounding sun.
So, while temperatures were still high on Sunday, the Shady Car Show
was definitely a “cool” place to be.
