Many participate in walk to raise
awareness for National Addiction Recovery Month in Lincoln

September is National Addiction Recovery Month. In Lincoln on Saturday
the Logan/Mason County Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC), in
conjunction with a grant and with assistance from personnel from
Chestnut Health Systems, hosted an awareness walk in downtown Lincoln.

Walkers gathered at Scully Park then walked from the park to
and around the Logan County Courthouse returning to the park at the
end.
Chestnut Health Systems team members hosting the event include (left
to right) Community Health Specialist Kari Knapp, Prevention
Specialists Grace Irvin and Tyler Wenger.
After the walk there was a program with special speakers. Also
offered was addiction and recovery resources via vendors who had
tables set up at the park sharing information.
Lunch was provided courtesy of Flossie and Delzina’s in Lincoln and
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Community Health Collaborative.
Samantha Martinie was the first speaker and she has been in recovery
for over two years.

Her journey has been a very long and difficult one having lost
several close friends to drugs and ultimately losing her husband
John Beck.
Heidi McKinney has been in recovery for three years and eight
months. She said she would never have made it without her family and
friends. She said, “they never gave up on me even after I had.”
