Mount Pulaski defeats Illini Central 24-0

[April 01, 2022]  The Hilltoppers put up some huge innings over Illini Central on Tuesday afternoon in Mason City, defeating the Cougars by a final score of 24-0.

Mount Pulaski scored eight runs off nine hits in the top of the first inning. Liam Smith, Clay Aylesworth and Kolin Gibbs all had RBI doubles in the inning. 

 

Mount Pulaski plated nine more runs in the second inning while hammering out seven hits. A two-run triple by Landon Smith and a two-run double by Kolin Smith were the big hits of the inning. Colt Selinger, Liam Smith and Jackson Fricke also added RBI singles in the second inning to contribute to the 17-0 lead. 

 

Moving to the fourth inning, the Hilltoppers had four hits and managed to score seven more runs off Cougar pitching, who helped by issuing six walks. Ethan Payne and Clay Aylesworth each had RBI singles in the inning. 

 

Mount Pulaski wins the four-inning affair by a final score of 24-0. 

 

Luke Farris (1-0) was the winning pitcher for Mount Pulaski. He threw three innings and only allowed one hit while striking out four batters. 

 

Colt Selinger pitched a scoreless fourth inning against the Cougars in relief.

Mount Pulaski pounded out 20 hits versus the Cougars. 

 

Liam Smith, Jackson Fricke and Clay Aylesworth all had three hits apiece. 

 

Landon Smith, Lucas Kuhlman, Kolin Gibbs, and Colt Selinger each had two hits for Mount Pulaski.

 

Evan Cooper, Ethan Payne and Luke Farris completed the Hilltoppers offense with one hit apiece.

 

 

The Hilltoppers improve to 3-0 on the season.

 

Mount Pulaski is scheduled to play games everyday the rest of this week, but based on the wet conditions it would be no surprise if a game was cancelled. 

 

According to the schedule, the Hilltoppers will host Decatur Lutheran today at 4:30 p.m.
