There was a serious accident at the intersection of Pulaski Street and South Kickapoo on Monday evening, but no one appeared to be too excited about it. That is because it was a scene for a student-made film addressing the residual impacts of bullying among our youth.

The film was being made by students from Illinois Wesleyan University under the direction of Thomas Quinn.

Quinn had requested use of the intersection from the city of Lincoln for a time frame of 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. He had told the Lincoln City Council that filming would not take up all of that time, but he also needed time to set the scene which included two wrecked vehicles sitting in the center of the intersection.

The story line of the scene involves a young driver who is upset about something that has happened. She is the victim of bullying by her peers and is distracted by the most recent episode. She blows through the intersection and is t-boned by another vehicle.

During the filming process, the scene shows the driver of the red car getting out of the vehicle along with a young lady who is her passenger. The passenger appears to be injured to some degree. The driver of the white car comes out of her vehicle angry and aggressive toward the two young women in the other vehicle.

What happens beyond that confrontation will be determined as filming progresses in other settings.

Quinn had said that he wanted to do the filming in Lincoln on Monday evening. He had studied the traffic in the area on Monday evenings and felt that the time frame he was requesting would be the least obtrusive to the public.

The public was also invited to come out and watch the filming process if they wished.
