"I am grateful to Leader McCarthy for my appointment to the
Conference Committee," said Rep. LaHood. "China presents dynamic
and growing challenges that impact the U.S. economy and our
national security, which requires strong action and thoughtful
policy solutions. As a Core Conferee from the Ways and Means
Committee, I look forward to working with Leader Kevin Brady and
my colleagues to prioritize trade and economic policy that
strengthens American competitiveness in international trade,
protects Illinois agriculture, manufacturing, and small
businesses, and addresses China's economic manipulation and
statecraft."
LaHood also serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on
Intelligence. He is a Co-Chair of the bipartisan U.S.-China
Working Group, with Congressmen Rick Larsen (D-WA), and a member
of the House Republican China Task Force.
The Conference Committee consists of members from both the House
and Senate who will work to resolve differences between the
House-passed H.R. 4521 and the Senate-passed S. 1260, two pieces
of legislation that seek to address challenges presented by
China and increase American competitiveness.
