[April 09, 2022]  Most of us love a good comeback story. So do kids: Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King are all comeback stories. The bible is full of them: Joseph, Moses, King David, Ruth, Mary Magdalene, are all comeback stories. If there was a comeback award, who would you give it to? Jesus certainly has one of, if not the most, amazing of all comebacks: beating death with resurrection.

In 1974, NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year was Broadway Joe Namath. Plagued with knee injuries and surgeries, Namath even had to have his knee drained at halftime just so he could finish. It meant driving a long needle in and behind his kneecap. When many wrote him off, his comeback was greater than his setback. Joe Namath won Super Bowl III and was named the MVP of the game.

In 2015, NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year was Payton Manning. Manning was let go from the Colts and was considered by many to be too old for the game. Plagued with multiple neck surgeries, Manning went on to become one of the greatest field generals the game has ever known, winning Super Bowl 50 with Denver and being the game MVP.

In 2020, NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year was none other than Tom Brady. Years with the New England Patriots, playing in nine Super Bowls and winning six of them. However, the Patriots decided not to keep him so he played for the Buccaneers and everyone was wondering if Tom Brady can be a comeback player. The answer was YES! He led his new team to his seventh Super Bowl victory and making him the greatest of all time.

The good news of the gospel is that regardless of how badly we have messed up or ship wrecked our lives, with God there is always an opportunity to be a comeback story.

Join us this Easter as we celebrate "Life’s greatest comeback ever, the story of Jesus’ resurrection from death." His story can now be our story. Jesus is in the business of comebacks and is writing yours too!
