Hilltoppers crush Edinburg 26-1

[April 12, 2022]    Mount Pulaski returned to the win column on Monday afternoon in a big way. The Hilltoppers traveled to Edinburg and defeated the Wildcats 26-1 behind 14 hits.

 

Landon Smith and Clay Aylesworth led the Hilltoppers offense. Smith was 3-for-3 with five runs batted in and four runs scored. Aylesworth was also 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. 

 

Evan Cooper and AJ Bailey each had two hits for Mount Pulaski while Jackson Fricke, Gavin Smith, Liam Smith and Colt Selinger each had one hit. 

 

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Hilltoppers plated eight runs in the second inning to take a 9-0 lead. 

 

After a huge third inning, the Hilltoppers lead was 19-1. 

 

The fourth and final inning saw the Hilltoppers plate seven more runs and settle the score at 26-1.

 

Liam Smith (1-0) earned the win for Mount Pulaski. Smith tossed three innings, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out seven batters.

 

Luke Farris pitched the final inning, allowing one hit. 

 

Mount Pulaski improves to 7-2 on the season. 

 

The Hilltoppers will play at Cerro Gordo/Bement today. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
