Kids make the dash for eggs at the Open Arms Christian Fellowship Easter Egg Hunt

[April 16, 2022]    On Saturday, what appeared to be at least a couple hundred children gathered with their families at Scully Park for the annual Open Arms Christian Fellowship Church Easter Egg Hunt.

While it is called a “hunt” the event is more like a mad, chaotic “dash” as the countdown is given then kids run with all their might to gather up as many eggs as possible that are strewn all over the ground.

The event is always well attended, even when like on Saturday it is cold. The best part of the weather was that the sun was shining and there was very little breeze.

So even though the thermometer was saying it was still in the 30’s at 10 a.m., no one seemed to care, especially the kids with the goals of filling their baskets or bags to full and overflowing with colorful plastic eggs.

More than 10,000 of the eggs were strewn about in three sections of the park. Kids were divided by age groups and the three sections were scoured one at a time of all the eggs.



In addition to grabbing up eggs, kids had the chance to grab some hugs and kisses from the Easter Bunny. The large white mascot of the event was making the rounds at all three sections, visiting with the kids and posing for pictures.

The excitement for the kids was made all the more special as they opened up the eggs to see what was tucked inside. Some held individual pieces of candy they put in their baskets while returning the eggs to large boxes provided by Area Disposal/GFL.



Some of the eggs had pieces of paper inside with special prizes. Kids could take those papers to tables at the park’s fountain to redeem for full-sized candy bars, and $5 bills.



In each age group, there was one special prize, a new bicycle. The first youngster to claim that super big prize was in the middle aged group. When he went up front holding his piece of paper, he was literally speechless when told that the new bright neon green bike was his to take home and keep.
