Cooper (3-2) allowed just four hits in seven innings. He struck
out eight batters and walked just two batters.
The Hilltoppers offense provided all the runs needed in the top
of the second inning. Both Jackson Fricke and AJ Bailey singled
in the inning. Gavin Smith’s grounder scored Fricke with the
first run of the game. Kolin Gibbs singled to score Bailey with
the Hilltoppers second run.
The Hilltoppers 2-0 lead was threatened in the bottom of the
seventh inning when the Tigers had the bases loaded on two Mount
Pulaski fielding errors and a walk. Cooper recorded the final
two outs of the game on strikeouts and the Hilltoppers held on
for the 2-0 win.
Offensively for Mount Pulaski, Jackson Fricke was 2-for-3 with a
run scored. Kolin Gibbs was 1-for-3 with an RBI. AJ Bailey was
1-for-2 with a run scored. Liam Smith was 1-for-4 and Gavin
Smith had one RBI.
Mount Pulaski improves to 11-3 on the season.
The Hilltoppers will host Springfield Southeast today at 4:30
p.m. at Veterans Park.
Mount Pulaski will play Springfield Lanphier Saturday morning at
10 a.m. at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield.
