 Heartland students placed in business-centric
categories at the state competition. For the first time since 2019,
the conference was held in-person, with competition being held in
Effingham.
Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is a national student organization that
prepares members for careers in business. Members of PBL can compete
in a variety of categories at the state and national level.
Five students posted top-three finishes in the state competition.

Heartland Community College instructor and Associate
Director of Business Technology Linda Lambert was also honored as
the Illinois PBL Advisor of the Year.

“The Illinois Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership
Conference and competition is a great way for students to show the
skills they will take into the workplace,” said Linda Lambert. “Our
PBL students represent the College in a great way, and these high
marks demonstrate their hard work inside and outside of the
classroom.”
Students placing 1st or 2nd at the State Conference
will compete in the National Leadership Conference held in Chicago
June 24-27. Heartland students will compete against over 2,000
students representing 44 colleges and universities from throughout
the United States.

The mission of Phi Beta Lambda is to provide leadership training and
service opportunities to students and is a national business
organization that welcomes students in any major. Each month,
Heartland’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter invites local business leaders
to speak about entrepreneurship, networking, interviewing skills,
business success and failures, leadership skills, and goal setting.
It is this type of partnership and professional support that Phi
Beta Lambda provides for their student and professional members.
