Planting season for new trees is fast approaching. If you are
willing to plant/care for a tree or trees on public property, please
see attached Tree request form. Also, ask for a copy of the “do not
plant” list, (see attached). There are specific guidelines to follow
in determining where planting should be done. Mark the spot you
would like to plant and return your request to City Hall. It will be
forwarded to your tree committee and will be checked for spacing,
distance to other structures, trees, etc.
After planting, mulching is a good plan to preserve moisture
content. Use 4”- 6” of mulch, keeping the mulch away from the trunk
to prevent insects from damaging the bark.

The mulch should have the shape of a donut around the base of the
trunk when you are finished. Please, do not use rocks or stones
as mulch, the added weight is detrimental to the roots and compacts
			the soil.
Refrain from pruning in the spring when sap is rising and buds are
forming. This is a fall project except for some flowering
shrubs/bushes, such as, forsythia, spirea, lilac, etc.
