Railsplitters sweep Effingham in Apollo Conference doubleheader

[April 27, 2022]    Lincoln hosted Effingham in an Apollo Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Mike Curry Field and the Railsplitters won both games by final scores of 2-1 and 4-1.

 

Game One

 

The Railsplitters rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking a 2-1 lead over Effingham on three hits. 

 

Back-to-back singles by Colbie Glenn and Alex Hoffert put the Railsplitters in a position to score. A fielder’s choice by Andrew Graue scored the Railsplitters first run. A double by Jaden Leadley scored Glenn with the go-ahead run and with Wyatt Mammen on the mound throwing a gem, the hurler needed no more run support.

Mammen worked five and one-third innings, giving up just one hit and one run while striking out 11 batters. Mammen walked four batters. 

 

Trent Koehler worked an inning and two-thirds in relief, shutting down the Hearts offense. Koehler did not allow a hit and struck out three batters while earning the save.

 

Game Two 

 

The Railsplitters scored runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to secure a 4-1 win over the Hearts in game two. 

 

A two-run double by Alex Hoffert plated the Railsplitters first two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and the team took a 2-1 lead over Effingham. 

 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Daulton Miller and Colbie Glenn batted in runs for Lincoln to make the score 4-1. 

 

Andrew Graue earned the win for Lincoln. Graue started the game and tossed four innings, allowing one run on four hits. Graue struck out five batters and walked two.

Trent Koehler pitched the final three innings, allowing no runs on two hits. Koehler struck out five batters.

 

The Railsplitters offense had nine hits versus the Hearts. 

 

Trey Schilling and Sean Raffa each had two hits. 

 

Colbie Glenn, Alex Hoffert, Andrew Graue, Jaden Klopp and Jaden Leadley each had a hit apiece.

 

With the sweep of the Hearts, the Railsplitters improved their record to 10-6.

 

Lincoln will play at Morton on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
