[August 12, 2022]    Al Hassebrock of Kenney, who served aboard the MMUSS Arlington spy ship during the recovery of Apollo 8, 10, & 11, will share his Apollo 11 memories and memorabilia during the Monday, Aug. 15, meeting of the Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society.

Hassebrock, who served as a ship fitter (metal smith) aboard the Arlington, has been invited to attend the annual reunions which include visiting with the astronauts. He said Neil Armstrong remains the only surviving astronaut. He also has received a letter from President Richard Nixon and has shared his experiences and exhibit with the St. Louis Science Center.

The 6:30 p.m. meeting will be at the LCGHS building at 114 N. Chicago St. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served following a brief business meeting.

This is the first meeting held at the LCGHS Center since smoke from an adjacent building forced its closing last fall. Clean-up work is continuing. It is hoped regular hours for volunteers will be established soon. Research inquiries are being accepted at 217-732-3200 and at logancoil1839@gmail.com.
