Obituary
Betty J. DeJarnette, 87, of Lincoln,
passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Copper
Creek Cottages in Lincoln.
Betty was born on August 26, 1934, in Lincoln, the
daughter of Elva and Ferne L. (Baker) Decker. She
married F. Kermit DeJarnette on March 4, 1956 and
enjoyed their 42 years together until his death in
1998.
Betty graduated from Lincoln Community High School
in 1952. She worked as an administrative assistant
at General Electric in Bloomington, and later as the
bookkeeper at Decker’s Family Shoe Store in Lincoln.
Her life is celebrated by her children, Shari (Eric)
Ulvestad of Lincoln, Gregory (Cindy) DeJarnette of
Lincoln and Karen (Mike Fuller) DeJarnette of
Syracuse, NY.; her grandchildren Andrew (Rebecca
Weems) DeJarnette, Caleb (Lauren) DeJarnette, Lucas
Ulvestad, and Wyatt Ulvestad; her brothers and their
families, James R. (Doris) Decker of Antioch, IL,
Larry L. (Mary) Decker of Bettendorf, IA, and Danny
D. (Joan) Decker of Dubuque, IA; and her many
friends. |
Active in the community, Betty was a
long-time member of Lincoln Christian Church. She
was a Charter Member of JW P.E.O. Sisterhood, a
member of the Junior Women's Club (Past President),
and on the Board of the Community Concert
Association. She is well-known for her entertaining
and card playing skills by family and friends.
As well as her husband, Kermit, Betty was preceded
in death by her parents and Delmar Strunk, her first
husband.
Visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on
Friday, August 19, 2022, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln. Services for Betty will be
held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at
the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at
New Union Cemetery in Lincoln.
Memorials may be made in Betty's name to Chapter JW
P.E.O. and the American Heart Association.
