Heitmann Drive Reconstruction Project starts Monday

Beginning Monday morning August 22nd, phase one of the Heitmann Drive reconstruction project will get underway. A portion of the northbound lane of Heitmann Drive will be closed near the Thorntons gas station and Pilot truck stop. Traffic exiting west onto Heitmann from the truck stop will need to detour south to Sysco Drive and then take Madigan Drive back to Woodlawn Road.

Please follow all traffic control signs and drive with caution while traveling in the area.

Additional lane closures on Heitmann Drive will be implemented in the coming weeks as the project progresses.

This year, the Central Illinois Veterans Commission in Lincoln was nominated for the Governors Hometown Award. The organization was among 45 nominated. After consideration by the judges, the CIVC was selected as one of the top four finalists.

On Thursday, the board members of the CIVC were at the state fair to witness the results. They did not win first place, though the judges encouraged them to return next year and vie for the title again.

Even though they didn’t win the big trophy, they were awarded a large sign that can be placed at the edge of town, advertising that they were among the finalists.

And, even though they did not win that big trophy, the group is one of great value in our community. Their work is vital to the well-being of many local veterans, and we as a community should take every opportunity to express our appreciation for their commitment to our local heroes.
