Obituary

Donald Eugene Hopp Jr., of Lincoln, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022.

Don was born on May 7, 1958, in Lincoln to Anneta and Donald Hopp, Sr.

He is survived by his siblings, Donna Sommers of Beason, and Jon (Julie) Hopp of Mason City. Though he never married or had any children, he is also survived by nephews and nieces that he treated as his own. Also surviving are some amazing friends that never left his side through all his challenges in life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Phillip Hopp.

Don graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1976. He was an incredible brick layer for many years before an ATV accident left him unable to continue work in that field. Don never let his disability stop him from moving forward in life. He quickly figured out a new way of independent life on wheels and discovered a love for taxidermy. He owned and operated Two Dogs Taxidermy Studio until his retirement.

Don loved nothing more than taking his nephews hunting and fishing. He adored mentoring them on gun safety, teaching them about nature, and making sure they stopped to enjoy life’s simple treasures in the outdoors.

Don’s favorite quote was by Sitting Bull: “Inside of me there are two dogs. One is mean and evil and the other is good and they fight each other all the time. When asked which one wins, I answer, the one I feed the most.” This quote is quite fitting for Don. Through all his trials and tribulations, especially in the last two years of health challenges, he could have fed the mean and evil. He could have given up and let his situation leave him cold and bitter. Instead, he chose to feed the good. He fed the good so much that it allowed him to live out his life to the fullest, where he could enjoy every moment possible and to take in all the simple things.

A celebration of life will be held in Don’s memory on Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lincoln Knights Columbus.

In Don’s memory, we ask that you take in nature. Enjoy life’s simple beauty, spend time with those you love, and feed the good.
