The Lady Railers beat the Mattoon Green Wave 57-32 on Friday night
at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium as Lincoln remains undefeated with an
8-0 record.
The Lady Railers led 19-7 after the first quarter. Kloe Froebe
poured in 11 points early and Becca Heitzig and Taryn Stoltzenburg
each added four points.
Froebe connected for a three to begin the Lady Railers scoring in
the second quarter. After a couple free throws by the Green Wave
made the score 22-9, the Lady Railers shut down the Mattoon offense
for the rest of the quarter. Lincoln used a 13-0 run in the second
quarter to put the Green Wave in a 35-9 deficit at the half.
The Lady Railers continued to impress in the third
quarter with their defense, ball movement and just overall hustle.
Heitzig’s nice pass to Bowman for the bucket stretched the lead to
37-9. The Green Wave would finally hit double-digits on a three at
the 7:05 mark. But Heitzig hit back-to-back baskets to make the
score 41-12. She’s really mastered that 3 foot jumper in the lane
and it’s a thing of beauty. With just under two minutes left in the
quarter, Froebe extended the lead to 46-19. Enter freshman Mia Clark
into the game and this girl doesn’t hesitate to look for a shot.
Clark hit a jumper to make the score 48-19. After a quick steal by
Froebe, she drove to the basket for a left-handed layup and after
making the ‘and one’ the Lincoln lead was 51-19. Clark drove the
lane one more time when she touched the ball and her basket with
46.4 on the third quarter clock allowed the Lady Railers to take a
53-19 lead. Lincoln took this huge lead into the fourth quarter and
with it comes the running clock.
The starters were given a rest for the majority of the fourth
quarter and with the bench taking over, the game would end pretty
quickly. As the sound of the buzzer rattled inside Roy S. Anderson,
the Lady Railers walked off the court with a 57-32 win.
Kloe Froebe led Lincoln with 28 points. Becca Heitzig scored 13
points for the Lady Railers.
Lincoln improved their record to 8-0 on the season.
