Mount Pulaski defeats Midwest Central 65-58

[December 06, 2022] The Lady Toppers hosted Midwest Central on Monday night in a Varsity only contest won by the home team 65-58.

Mount Pulaski was up 21-4 in the first quarter with Midwest Central scoring all their points on free throws until a buzzer-beating three by Cora DeSutter made the score 21-7. Alexis Wade led Mount Pulaski with nine first quarter points. Grace Davis and Aly Murphy each tossed in five points in the first quarter. Kenzie added a bucket to complete the early offensive attack.

Murphy hit two threes in the second quarter and Wade tossed in four more points to guide the Lady Toppers to a 31-22 lead at the half.

Wade’s eleven points in the third quarter allowed Mount Pulaski to keep the lead. Davis and Je’Na Rentmeister also knocked down threes for Mount Pulaski. On the Midwest Central side it was Faith Harper and Karsyn Skaggs combining to score five three-point baskets. The score was 50-37 in Mount Pulaski’s favor at the end of the third quarter.

Midwest Central continued shooting the three in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Toppers never ran out of gas and they picked up the 65-58 win.

Alexis Wade led all scorers with 29 points. Wade also had five assists, four steals and four rebounds.

Alyson Murphy finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds.

Grace Davis tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Cora DeSutter led Midwest Central with 21 points and Faith Harper added 20 points.

Midwest Central finished the game with 10 three-point baskets.

Mount Pulaski improved their record to 4-3 on the season.

The Lady Toppers will play at Riverton tonight. The JV game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. The Varsity game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
