The Mount Pulaski Honeybears defeated Decatur Catholic 48-26
Thursday night to win the Class 2A 8th Grade Sectional Championship
hosted by Mount Pulaski.
The Honeybears ran out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter with
Audrey Cooper and Mackenzie Johnston each tossing in four points.
Ella Martin came in off the bench and scored four points in the
second quarter, helping to guide the Honeybears to a 25-16 halftime
lead.
With Claire Bobell scoring six points and Addison Brown scoring five
points in the third quarter, the Honeybears just kept adding to the
lead. At the end of the third quarter, Mount Pulaski was on top
40-24.
Cooper, Bobell and Johnston and Olivia Smith each scored in the
fourth quarter for Mount Pulaski. Meanwhile the Honeybears defense
continued to rattle Decatur Catholic, holding them to just two
points in the fourth quarter.
Mount Pulaski hoisted the championship plaque in the end and
celebrated a 48-26 win.
The Honeybears simply played a remarkable ballgame in front of a
packed and energized crowd inside the Bob Gasaway Gymnasium.

Seven different players found their
way into the scoring column for Mount Pulaski.
Claire Bobell led Mount Pulaski in scoring with 10 points.
Mount Pulaski (22-1) will play Mount
Sterling Brown County (23-2) on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the 8th Grade
Class 2A State Tournament hosted by Havana. The winner will play in
the semifinals later that day at 5 p.m.
