"Christmas in Candyland" a sweet theme for the annual Christmas Parade in Lincoln

[December 08, 2022]    On Thursday evening, as the darkness fell, the wind picked up, and the temperatures dropped. But, those cold conditions did not hinder many people from coming to see the annual Christmas Parade in downtown Lincoln.

The Logan County Tourism Bureau staff and board organize the annual parade. For this year, the theme selected by staff and approved by the board was "Christmas in Candyland."

The theme was seen clearly in almost every entry in the parade. Many of the entries included gingerbread men, lollipops, candy canes, and gingerbread houses in their floats.

There were more than 50 entries this year, with several floats and many businesses and organizations with their vehicles and walkers handing out candy.

This year there was also an abundant supply of "grinches" at the parade, including the one who might claim to be the original driving his little green Nash Rambler. Others were seen on foot and riding in golf carts.

Candy flew through the air at regular intervals, much to the delight of the many children and some adults watching and waiting to sntach up their fair share of the sweet treats for which the parade was themed.

Of course, no Christmas Parade is complete without Santa Claus. Santa and Mrs. Claus brought up the rear of the parade this year, carried in a lovely horse-drawn carriage.

At the end of the route, the Clauses were driven to the Logan County Tourism Bureau Visitors Center, where they went inside to be greeted by dozens of local children, anxious to take their turn on Santa's lap.
