Mount Pulaski tops Illini Central 54-25

The Lady Toppers welcomed the Illini Central Cougars to town on
Thursday night and after a close first quarter, Mount Pulaski began
to run away with the game, winning 54-25.
Mount Pulaski edged Illini Central 13-12 in the first quarter. The
Cougars’ Madison Hughes was off to a hot start, scoring nine points
in the first quarter. Lannah Shaffer added a three to complete the
Cougars scoring. Mount Pulaski answered back with a couple threes
from Alexis Wade and two-point field goals by Aly Murphy, Kenzie
Chandler and Elayna Marten.
Murphy ignited the Mount Pulaski offense with nine points scored in
the second quarter. Wade, Grace Davis and Je’Na Rentmeister
connected for field goals also as the Lady Toppers built a 27-16
lead at the half.
Mount Pulaski scored 14 points in the third quarter, led by
Chandler’s four points. After three quarters, Mount Pulaski was on
top 41-22.
With Wade and Rentmeister able to rain threes in the fourth quarter,
the Lady Toppers stretched the lead to 30 points and a running
clock. Wade finished with four threes in the game as Mount Pulaski
cruised to the 54-25 win.
Alexis Wade led all scorers with 19 points.
Aly Murphy hit double-figures with 12 points.
Mount Pulaski improves to 6-3 on the season.
Mount Pulaski won the JV contest 26-9. Aly Murphy led the JV team
with 10 points.
Mount Pulaski will play at Lutheran High School on Monday at 6 p.m.
