Lady Wolverines punch ticket to State

[December 09, 2022] The West Lincoln-Broadwell Lady Wolverines defeated Morton Blessed Sacrament 32-28 Thursday night to win the Class 1A 8th Grade Sectional Championship hosted by WLB.

The Lady Wolverines had an 8-6 lead in the first quarter with Sage Gilbert pouring in six of those points.

Morton Blessed Sacrament held the Lady Wolverines to two points in the second quarter and took over the lead. WLB was down 14-10 at halftime.

The Lady Wolverines offense put up 14 points in the third quarter. Grey Gilbert made a three and shot 4-for-6 from the free throw line to give the team the boost they needed. Sage Gilbert, Paisley Holmes and Maci Eskra also hit field goals to push the Lady Wolverines in front, 24-19 the WLB lead going into the final quarter.

WLB’s offense in the fourth quarter was provided by the Gilbert girls, Holmes and Grace Bivin, who each scored a basket. Morton Blessed Sacrament missed six free throws in the fourth quarter and saw their season come to an end.

WLB was able to win the sectional championship on their home court by a final score of 32-28.



Sage Gilbert led the Lady Wolverines with 10 points.

WLB (19-6) will play Kewanee Visitation (17-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the 8th Grade Class 1A State Tournament hosted by Clinton Junior High School. The winner will play in the semifinals later that evening at 6:30 p.m.
