Hilltoppers fall to Edinburg 58-50

[December 12, 2022]  Mount Pulaski traveled to Edinburg on Friday night and it was the Wildcats celebrating a 58-50 come-from-behind win over the Hilltoppers.

The Hilltoppers were off to a hot start with Evan Cooper and Clay Aylesworth combining to score 17 points in the first quarter. Mount Pulaski was on top 19-12 at the end of one quarter of play.

A slower second quarter allowed the Wildcats to crawl back in the game, trailing Mount Pulaski 25-23 at the half.

Cooper and Aylesworth scored 13 of the Hilltoppers 17 points in the third quarter as Mount Pulaski held a 42-37 lead over the Wildcats.

Two threes and two free throws from Cooper would be all the scoring for Mount Pulaski in the fourth quarter and at the other end the Wildcats poured in 21 points and took over the lead.

Edinburg wins the game by a final score of 58-50.

Mount Pulaski was led in scoring by Evan Cooper with 26 points. Clay Aylesworth scored 14 points for the Hilltoppers.

The Hilltoppers fall to 2-6 on the season.

In the JV contest Beau Tschantz led Mount Pulaski with 21 points as the Hilltoppers defeated Edinburg 52-46. Kolin Gibbs tossed in 11 points for Mount Pulaski.

According to Coach Ryan Deibert, the boys participated in a free throw-a-thon earlier in the week to raise money for Edinburg superintendent Ben Theilen's family. Theilen, 44, passed away Tuesday after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Coach Deibert was very proud of the Hilltoppers for raising $1100 for the family.

The Hilltoppers will play at Williamsville on Tuesday night. The JV game is set for 6 p.m. The Varsity will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
